Today you will visit the New Acropolis Museum, the Ancient agora and the National Archaeological Museum of Athens

New Acropolis Museum is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on its feet, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It also lies on the archaeological site of Makrygianni and the ruins of a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens

Ancient Agora was the heart of ancient Athens, the focus of political, commercial, administrative and social activity, the religious and cultural centre, and the seat of justice.

The site was occupied without interruption in all periods of the city's history. It was used as a residential and burial area as early as the Late Neolithic period (3000 B.C.). Early in the 6th century, in the time of Solon, the Agora became a public area

After a series of repairs and remodellings, it reached its final rectangular form in the 2nd century B.C. Extensive building activity occured after the serious damage made by the Persians in 480/79 B.C., by the Romans in 89 B.C. and by the Herulae in A.D. 267 while, after the Slavic invasion in A.D. 580, It was gradually abandoned. From the Byzantine period until after 1834, when Athens became the capital of the independent Greek state, the Agora was again developed as a residential area

National Archaeological Museum is the largest museum in Greece and one of the world's great museums. Although its original purpose was to secure all the finds from the nineteenth century excavations in and around Athens, it gradually became the central National Archaeological Museum and was enriched with finds from all over Greece. Its abundant collections, with more than 20,000 exhibits, provide a panorama of Greek civilization from the beginnings of Prehistory to Late Antiquity

Afternoon free at leisure and overnight in Athens

Day 3: Athens- science day

Breakfast in the hotel

Today you will visit of the Eugenides Foundation including a visit at the Interactive Science & Tech Exhibition Hall and a film show in the digital Planetarium (depending on the period of visit)

The Eugenides Foundation's Physics Experiment Collections and the Technical Exhibit Halls were created in 1966. Their goal was to fill the gaps in experimental equipment at the institutions of technical education in post-war Greece and to more adequately carry out the essential educational function in the technical and scientific fields.
The experiments were an exact replica of similar exhibits at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, which granted permission free of charge to the Eugenides Foundation to create the collections and helped to plan the exhibit installations
The main element of the philosophy that pervaded the function of the exhibitions was to inspire love for teaching and learning about technical and scientific topics in an unrestricted and enjoyable way

In the evening visit the Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space applications & remote sensing at National Observatory of Athens

The Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) is one of the three institutes of the National Observatory of Athens, the oldest research institution in Greece. The main activities of the Institute involve basic and applied research in a number of topics in astrophysics, from distant galaxies to the solar neighborhood, as well as ground based and space-borne remote sensing, earth observation and signal processing

Overnight in Athens

Day 4: Atehns- natural history

Breakfast in the hotel

Today you will visit of Goulandris Natural History Museum and Gaia Center: Center of Environmental research and education

Goulandris Natural History Museum- permanent exhibition:  It took long scientific preparation, research and data collection for Greek and foreign scientists, artists and special museologists to present part of their activity to the public, thus fulfilling the mission of the museum as a scientific and educational centre. The first exhibition halls of the museum, those of plants biology, were designed for GNHM by the British Museum of Natural History. However, the Museum soon proceeded to its own architectural and museological design of its zoology and geology areas, with its artistic manager Petros Zabelis being in charge of the operations. The museological conception, the aesthetics of the spaces, the multitude and quality of exhibits were back then as they are now perfect in terms of communication

Gaia center demonstrates to visitors the way planet Earth has been functioning for millions of years and how it functions today, with the interventions of modern people. At the entrance, as well as all along the exhibition, the ancient goddess Gaia is present extending her offering hand to humans

The «Geosphere», which is unique in the world, is a hemispherical dome- monitor of 5m of diameter and of approximately 40 m2 of surface. It shows the rotating planet in 225,000 high resolution images. It also presents, in a brief and concise way, the geological evolution of the planet from its creation, 4.6 billion years ago, until today

The exhibition is conceived and implemented by the London Museum of Natural History in cooperation with Goulandris Museum of Natural History
